Dealing with Pregnancy Skin Breakouts?
Before I even knew I was pregnant, my normally clear skin began breaking out like crazy. To coincide with my 31st birthday, my skin was rivaling that of a teenager! in fact, I didn’t even get zits like this when I was a kid. To the left and right of my chin I had tons of little pimples that literally arose overnight.
My first stop in trying to fix the issue was a straight to Sephora, for some fancy fix skincare products. Hesitant to blow a couple of hundred dollars on skincare products, I got talking with the Sales Assistant about my weird skin predicament. I’m sure knew I was preggers from just looking at my skin…. a weird look followed with “it’s your hormones, come back to me in a week or so if it’s still the same!” Next stop, I decided to treat myself to a facial; my facialist quickly explained “the weathers changing, or it could be your hormones.”
Once week later, I discovered why my hormones were all over the place. I was pregnant with my first child! 😉
Why is Non-Toxic Skincare Important in Pregnancy?
I’ve always considered it really important to think about what you’re putting both in your mouth, and on your skin. Many skincare product these days are filled with toxic ingredients, which aren’t great for your skin. Now you have baba on board, it’s extra important to pay attention to the ingredients of any product which goes on your skin. Just like there are guidelines, don’t drink, don’t smoke… Ingredients which are topically applied to your skin can be absorbed into the blood stream. Here’s a great article summing up what to look out for when choosing your skincare products.
Choosing a Natural Skincare Regime, when Pregnant
I chose the Dr Hauschka brand, based on pricing, quality of ingredients and the natural nature of the product.
Upon reviewing a number of similar products online, for example Burts Bee, now owned by Clorox (bleach company) whilst having natural ingredients, use cheaper, not that great fillers such as soybean oil and canola oil, enabling them to deliver a cheaper price. I was drawn to the Dr Hauschka brand, based on their reputation, and integrity of ingredients. Although there price point is higher than drugstore brands such as Burts Bees, it’s very reasonable in contrast to many of the skincare brands you’ll find at Sephora.
Results using Dr Hauschka for Pregnancy Acne
From 6 weeks pregnancy, to 16 weeks my skin has changed dramatically. Obviously my breakouts can be apportioned to the sure in hormones, the normalizing of my skin, the leveling out of those hormones; however I will say. Using Dr Hauschka products on my skin, has made a real difference to my combined skin. The soothing cleansing milk feels extremely gentle, whilst removing the layers of foundation and concealer used to hide the ugly lumps! The Dr Hauschka Facial Toner was a godsend, especially when traveling. (I had a week in Dubai, notorious for its dry climate, with a 16 hour flight from California) Read more about my travel to Dubai // HERE. Instantly the spritz of wonder refreshed my complexion! The Dr Hauschka facial oil is my favorite out of all the products. It’s light, yet incredible nourishing. You only need to use 2-3 drops, and your skin instantly glows without feeling greasy. Its a perfect partner to a dewy foundation, to achieve that barely there makeup look.
