Winter Fireworks party
This November 5th we celebrated Bonfire night here in the UK with the cutest of parties in our back yard with close friends. It was so nice to start to build a new family tradition of our own for this annual event now that we have little Ethan. He loved being outside with the sights and sounds of the fireworks – plus staying up late a little longer with mummy and daddy!
It got me thinking how great it is to throw a party in Winter as there’s tonne of cool stuff you can do that just doesn’t work in Summer – take advantage of the darkness falling earlier and being able to get snug and warm around a fire!
How to make a winter party fun
Fire with seating around it
Outdoor lighting and candles
Winter Party food ideas:
We wanted something hearty and warming for people to be able to eat with their hands outside. We served warm caramelised onion sausages in crusty buns, with mugs of roasted pepper and tomato soup topped with goat’s cheese.
Later we devoured a scrumptious smørgåsbord of cheeses and nibbles – this is a good option for get-togethers like these. Find out how to do one here.
We finished off with toasted marshmallows – yum!
Winter party drink ideas:
Hot chocolate is a must to sip by the fire! We also had plenty of prosecco and beers for after the kids went to bed. Next time I’d serve up warm cider cocktails!
Top tips for outdoor parties
-Let your guests know they’ll be outside so they can bring lots of warm clothing
-Get out your blankets so people can cuddle up and keep cosy around the fire
-You want to spend time with your guests so light candles and do the cooking and food preparation beforehand – choose dishes you can heat up easily
– Create a relaxed atmosphere – play your favourite retro playlist, lay out a bottle opener, napkins, glasses, a big jug of water and cutlery so people can help themselves
